After receiving both a Bachelor’s degree in Game Production and a Master’s degree in Game Development and still being mostly self-taught in design, I made a vow to one day move into Game Design education. I had seen what was missing from Game Design education, and I vowed to improve the quality of the teaching being given to young up-and-coming designers.
I was given my opportunity to meet this goal earlier than expected, when I was brought in to cover a departing lecturer at NHTV University in Breda, Netherlands. There, I made my mark as one of the team helping to develop an entirely new educational system, focused on individualized, project-driven learning and catering to the complex and ever-shifting roles of the games industry.
I view teaching very much as the pinnacle of Game Design itself – the education of my students is my new project, and my proudest work to date.
